Roos News December 2024 – Holiday Edition

Hi to all our Roos Members

Can you believe that for most of our Roos, there are just a few more school days left until the end of Term 4, and only a few weeks until our favorite time of year? Where has the time gone?

Reflecting on the 2024 season, it was a journey of highs and lows. The season started slowly with numerous washed-out training sessions and games. It wasn’t until June that the weather finally turned favorable for rugby league. Interestingly, we didn’t have a single washout after the King’s Birthday weekend.

We then had a fantastic finals campaign, with most teams playing deep into August, including our senior team. Congratulations to our U16 League Tag team, who fought valiantly in their Grand Final, narrowly missing out on the win. Huge applause to our U13s and U14s teams, who both came away with premiership titles this year!

A major highlight of the year was the unveiling of our Roos scoreboard, which added so much to the game-day atmosphere at the park. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without your generous donations. It’s heartwarming to see such a supportive community rallying behind the club.

As we approach the holiday season, there are a few important updates to share before we all sign off for 2024…

2025 Registration Fees

Last year, the club reduced the overall registration fee by $25 to $250 to accommodate changes to the Active Kids Voucher program, as a way to thank parents for their support.

However, 2024 presented challenges, including the loss of canteen income due to wet weather and the reduced registration fees, which impacted the club financially. While we operate as a not-for-profit organisation, we aim to cover costs and maintain a healthy balance sheet to sustain the club for years to come.

For 2025, we’ve made the tough decision to restore registration fees to the 2023 rate of $275. An early bird discount of $25 will be available for registrations completed before 4th February, bringing the fee back down to $250. This remains competitively priced compared to other winter sports in the area, especially considering our fantastic community and club culture.

We will also continue offering the Multi-Roo Discount, reducing fees for subsequent registrations within the same family by $25 per child. For example:

  • 1st registration: $275
  • 2nd registration: $250
  • 3rd registration: $225, and so on.

This discount can be used alongside the early bird offer!

2025 Come and Try Days & Little Roos Program

Our 2025 Come and Try Days are locked in for Sunday, 2nd February and Sunday, 16th March. These events are vital for introducing new families and players to the club.

We’re especially looking to recruit players for the following age groups:

  • U4/6 Tag, U7, U8, U9
  • U12, U14, U16, and U18 League Tag
  • U14 and U16 Women’s Tackle

Our popular Little Roos Program for ages 3–5 will also return in late January/early February. This program focuses on teaching rugby league skills in a fun, friendly environment with the support of our wonderful coaches.

Keep an eye out for banners and flyers around the district promoting both programs. Please spread the word about our amazing club and share details with anyone who might be interested in trying Rugby League.

Holiday Season is upon us…

The silly season is nearly here, and I know I’m looking forward to a well-earned break after another incredible year with the Roos.

On behalf of the entire committee, thank you for your contribution to the success of our club in 2024. A special shoutout to our team volunteers and committee members—your hard work and dedication make this club the amazing community it is.

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season! Wherever your travels take you, don’t forget to tag us in your “Roos on Tour” holiday snaps featuring your ‘roo’ in their Roos gear.

See you all in 2025.

Come and Try Day

Our next Come and Try day is this SUNDAY at 11am Willoughby Park #2.  We had an outstanding response to our last one so we are hoping this one will be just as successful.

The format will be slightly different:

U6s to U9s will be run with coaches and the NRL – footy drills and fun!

U10s and up will be run with coaches and James Swadling from Fast Twitch Performance who will be focussing on benchmarking key performance metrics.  These will be:

    • Sprint – Time over 20 / 40 meters
    • Agility / Endurance – Beep Test
    • Strength – Max Push Ups / Sit Ups over a One Minute period
    • Flexibility – Sit and Reach Distance to / past feet

The club will record performance over these metrics and then remeasure later in the year so we are encouraging all registered and potential players from U10s and up to attend.

It should be a great day!

Roos News December 2020

Welcome to Roos News

This is the final Roos News for 2020, we look forward to releasing more frequent editions in 2021!

AGM Update and 2021 Committee

The Roos held their 2020 Annual General Meeting in late November, where it elected its committee for Season 2021.

There were a number of resignations from the committee this year and we thank the following people for their dedication and service:

  • Vicky Perdikaris – Club Secretary
  • Scott Horwood – Registrar
  • Karenza Horwood – Assistant Secretary

The Roos committee can now confirm the 2021 appointments are:

  • Tony Bellia – President
  • Jodi Zimmer – Vice President
  • David Zimmer – Club Secretary
  • Steve Dadich – Treasurer
  • Christian Hage – Committee Member
  • Rosanna Hage – Committee Member (New)
  • Chris Maher – Committee Member/Life Member
  • Veronica Whitmee – Committee Member (New)
  • Sunil Gopinath – Committee Member (New)
  • Brett Matthews – Committee Member (New)
  • Lee Giddins – Registrar (Non Committee Role)

The newly formed committee are looking forward to next season and have eagerly started planning for 2021 with some great initiatives ready to be implemented.  WATCH THIS SPACE!

2021 Volunteer Bond

For the upcoming season the Club will be implementing a volunteer bond of $50 per family.  Each family can receive their bond back at the end of the season if they undertake some volunteer shifts, on game days throughout the 2021 season, which include:

  • BBQ duties
  • Canteen
  • Set up of ground
  • Pack away and clean up

The number of shifts to be confirmed once we have a home game schedule, however we envisage 2 or 3.

The club will implement a full booking system to reconcile these shifts.

For those who choose not to volunteer throughout the year, the bond will be held to help support running costs of canteen and other facilities on game day.  This will allow the Roos to share the load and ensure that the club is not reliant on the same people each week and allow us to offer a superior game day experience.

We will also look to change the options of volunteering for 2021.  The club recognises that adding another hour post game to volunteer is difficult on top of everyone’s busy schedules so to make it easier, next season volunteer shifts will be available for the 1 hour before games so you can get out and get on with your day once your child’s game is finished.

The bond will be included in the 2021 Registration cost for your first child only, so make sure you register all players at once to avoid being charged the bond twice.  If you can’t register all players at one time, please reach out to any of the committee members to discuss.

Coaches, managers, trainers and committee members will not be required to pay the bond and we will send a link shortly to use for the registration process.

2021 Registration Fee Increase

To cover the ever increasing costs of running the club, the committee has agreed to increase the registration fee to $200 per player.  The club will be offering a $30 Early Bird discount if you register before 31st Jan 2021.

Remember that with the $100 Active Kids voucher from the NSW Government this means the registration fee could be as low as $70 which is an amazing value for a season of sport.

ALL NEW players will continue to receive on top of their full kit, a training shirt, bag, cap and hoodie.

Registrations opened today, so if you have any active kids vouchers that you have not used in 2020 get in early and make good use of it.
