Roos News December 2020

Welcome to Roos News

This is the final Roos News for 2020, we look forward to releasing more frequent editions in 2021!

AGM Update and 2021 Committee

The Roos held their 2020 Annual General Meeting in late November, where it elected its committee for Season 2021.

There were a number of resignations from the committee this year and we thank the following people for their dedication and service:

  • Vicky Perdikaris – Club Secretary
  • Scott Horwood – Registrar
  • Karenza Horwood – Assistant Secretary

The Roos committee can now confirm the 2021 appointments are:

  • Tony Bellia – President
  • Jodi Zimmer – Vice President
  • David Zimmer – Club Secretary
  • Steve Dadich – Treasurer
  • Christian Hage – Committee Member
  • Rosanna Hage – Committee Member (New)
  • Chris Maher – Committee Member/Life Member
  • Veronica Whitmee – Committee Member (New)
  • Sunil Gopinath – Committee Member (New)
  • Brett Matthews – Committee Member (New)
  • Lee Giddins – Registrar (Non Committee Role)

The newly formed committee are looking forward to next season and have eagerly started planning for 2021 with some great initiatives ready to be implemented.  WATCH THIS SPACE!

2021 Volunteer Bond

For the upcoming season the Club will be implementing a volunteer bond of $50 per family.  Each family can receive their bond back at the end of the season if they undertake some volunteer shifts, on game days throughout the 2021 season, which include:

  • BBQ duties
  • Canteen
  • Set up of ground
  • Pack away and clean up

The number of shifts to be confirmed once we have a home game schedule, however we envisage 2 or 3.

The club will implement a full booking system to reconcile these shifts.

For those who choose not to volunteer throughout the year, the bond will be held to help support running costs of canteen and other facilities on game day.  This will allow the Roos to share the load and ensure that the club is not reliant on the same people each week and allow us to offer a superior game day experience.

We will also look to change the options of volunteering for 2021.  The club recognises that adding another hour post game to volunteer is difficult on top of everyone’s busy schedules so to make it easier, next season volunteer shifts will be available for the 1 hour before games so you can get out and get on with your day once your child’s game is finished.

The bond will be included in the 2021 Registration cost for your first child only, so make sure you register all players at once to avoid being charged the bond twice.  If you can’t register all players at one time, please reach out to any of the committee members to discuss.

Coaches, managers, trainers and committee members will not be required to pay the bond and we will send a link shortly to use for the registration process.

2021 Registration Fee Increase

To cover the ever increasing costs of running the club, the committee has agreed to increase the registration fee to $200 per player.  The club will be offering a $30 Early Bird discount if you register before 31st Jan 2021.

Remember that with the $100 Active Kids voucher from the NSW Government this means the registration fee could be as low as $70 which is an amazing value for a season of sport.

ALL NEW players will continue to receive on top of their full kit, a training shirt, bag, cap and hoodie.

Registrations opened today, so if you have any active kids vouchers that you have not used in 2020 get in early and make good use of it.

We want to wish our Roos family a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2021!  Make sure you keep an eye out for details on our pre-season fitness training for players and parents alike which will start early January.

Go Roos!

ROOS NEWS

Welcome to Roos News – August 2020

What a few weeks it has been!

It’s great that we have been able to get the players back out on the field to play.   So many happy kids, coaches and families!  Here are some happy snaps from the first five rounds!  We love receiving photos and videos which we can use on social media and in our newsletters & communications, if you do have any to share please email them to willougbyroos@gmail.com.

A message from our Acting President – Tony Bellia

We are halfway through a shortened season and I would love to thank the committee, coaches, managers, trainers and volunteers who have helped make this an enjoyable season and ensured the kids get to play this wonderful game.  Best wishes to our outgoing president Marty who was always first to the ground and last to leave on weekends and training days. For many years you put the club first and the way kids interacted with you shows how much effort you put in to the club and its members  – Tony

Coach in the Spotlight

We would like to re-introduce our Coach in the Spotlight which we did last year on social media, it is a nice way for community to see who is involved in our teams.    Let’s meet Dave Broe – under 6s Yellow coach.

Willoughby Park Upgrade

Willoughby Park will be going through a much needed upgrade from next week which means the Oval will no longer be available for us to train on.  We have been able to negotiate with the Council to have access to Willoughby Park Oval No.2 and Beauchamp Park.  At this stage Under 6s to Under 9s will train at Willoughby Park Oval No.2, the Girls League Tag teams will train there straight after.  The remainder of the teams will be allocated time at Beauchamp Park.  These new locations will commence from NEXT WEEK.

Your coaches/managers will be in touch to re-confirm these details with you shortly.

Jersey Return – End of Season

This year we will be ending the season a little differently.  We will at the end of the season be asking for all jerseys to be returned to your manager so they can be dry cleaned and re-used next year.

We have not asked for this to happen in previous seasons however with such a short season and in order to keep our fees low we thought it would be the best way forward for next season.

Finals Time

The season will come to an end of Saturday 26 September with the Grand Final for those Under 9s to under 13s being played at Macquarie Uni Sport Fields.  Under 6s to Under 8s will have a Gala Day at this venue on the day with their games played prior to the grand final kick off.

Our Under 12s Grand Final Winners last year

Covid-19 Protocols

We would like to remind everyone that we are still abiding by our COVID-19 protocols and guidelines which we must observe during training and game days.  As the Club takes this very seriously, we would be very grateful for your support with this to ensure an enjoyable day for the kids.

In the event of any changes to restrictions or protocols relating to our training and game days we will communicate these immediately to you all.

Final Note

We are very excited that we have had an increase in registrations this year resulting in two teams in the age groups of Under 6s, Under 10s and Under 13s Girls League Tag.

THANK YOU for choosing Willoughby Roos as your favourite Junior Footy Club.

We love our footy and LOVE seeing all the girls and boys having fun and making lifelong friendships.

Please show your support and like us on Facebook and Instagram (and now Tik Tok) so you can keep updated on all Roos events, photos and match results!

Willoughby Roos Season 2020

Welcome to the Willoughby Roos 2020 season.

We are excited to FINALLY be able to get back to training and games.  It certainly has been a very different season to previous years and it will continue to be so.   As much as we are excited to see the kids back on the field we want to make sure everyone is SAFE!

Covid-19 Return to Play

The first game of the 2020 season is scheduled for Saturday 18 Jul 2020 and following are COVID-19 protocols and guidelines that we must observe on game day. As the Club takes this very seriously, we would be very grateful for your support with this to ensure an enjoyable day for the kids.

  • Don’t participate if you have symptoms
  • Get in, play, get out – once the game is over please don’t hang around the ground
  • 1.5m distance between people on team bench
  • NO sharing of:
    • personal equipment i.e. boots, headgear, mouth-guards
    • water bottles – bring your own water bottle and make sure it is easily identifiable
    • DH & FR vests
    • halftime fruit
  • Drinks breaks have been added to the match schedule as trainers are not allowed to run water onto the field
  • Attendance Register maintained including players, coaching personnel and officials
  • Essential participants only, restrict spectators to two parent/carer per child
  • Spectators are away from the field and observing social distancing at all times
  • Players: no spitting, handshakes, high fives

Alert: Star City Confirmed Case

Following the announcement of the confirmed Covid-19 case at Star City, in the interests of being vigilant, we would like to request that if you were at Star City on or around 4th July please DO NOT participate in this week’s training or games.

Home Games

Due to this being a reduced season and that Willoughby Park will be undergoing an upgrade as of the end of August we only have 2 home game days at our ground.

Home Game Schedule

Round 2 Sat 25 July

Round 4 Sat 8 August

Every home game day is an important event for the Willoughby Roos.  The Roos committee ensure every event is set up and maintained for the enjoyment and safety for all.

We have a Canteen open from 8:30am.  Last year we have added EFTPOS facilities which worked extremely well and will continue this season.  We will have to put in certain protocols this year to operate a canteen and BBQ in order to ensure we are Covid Safe, these will be communicated to you all prior to our first home game on 25th July.

Volunteers Needed

As you know the Willoughby Roos Club is run by volunteers and without your help, Home Game Days would not be possible.

All we ask of every team is 2 volunteers for 45 mins to 1 hour after the age group has played to help out with the BBQ and Canteen Duties.

We will be using SignUpGenius to allow parents and carers to easily volunteer. This system will be emailed to every registered email at the beginning of the Home game week.  Please look out for it!

So please “Sign Up” and help make every home game experience fun and enjoyable!

Roos News September

Welcome to Roos News!

Can you believe the season is over?  Neither can we!  However what a way to end the season with three teams in the Grand Final on the 31st August at North Sydney Oval, and ALL three walked away winners!

Under 9s Gold

Congratulations to Jason, Andrew and Lee on the tight win over the Asquith Magpies, 42 to 40.  The MVP was Zac Nachabe.

Under 10s

You can see the relief on Marty’s face below, it was another tight game, with the Under 10s coming away winners over the Ku-ring-gah Cubs 18 to 12.  The MVP was Anthony Abdo.

Under 12s Bronze

Congratulations to Brett and Craig, and a HUGE special mention to coach Vinny – his first time at the helm, and the Under 12s won 24 to 10 over the Hills Hawks.  The MVP was James Archer.

Parents Night Out

It was a great night out on 17 August for our first Roos Parents Night Out at Norths.  We had close to 70 people come celebrate the 2019 season.  It was a night of food, drinks, speeches, celebration and a bit of dancing!

It was a huge success (with everyone wearing their touch of PINK to celebrate Women in League Round) and we will be adding it to the social calendar for next year.  I am sure there were a few sore heads the next day.

Life Member Award

We recently awarded Life Membership to John (Tex) Armstrong.

John was a valued coach, trainer and committee member who also helped mould the North Sydney Junior Rugby League. Roos committee member Chris Maher fondly remembers John as a great bloke who made sure that all kids had a run and that everyone made it to game days no matter how full his car was. His love of the Club rubbed off onto his son Gary and grandsons Rhys and Jake who all played and contributed to the mighty Roos.

We congratulate John on his Life Membership which was proudly presented to him last week by his son Gary and grandsons Rhys and Jake.

Tommy Bishop Shield

On Sunday our Under 8s travelled to Illawong to compete in the Tommy Bishop Shield.  This tournament is a round robin competition involving 28 teams from across the various districts in Sydney.   Districts were encouraged to send their two top performing teams.  There were four separate carnivals with every team playing at least five games.

In the past the Roos have not fared too well at this competition despite being in the top two teams within the North Sydney District.  This year however saw our Under 8s win TWO games and narrowly missing out on the semis.

The courage and determination this squad of nine players showed was amazing, they displayed all the qualities of a true Roos player!  Well done boys and Chi Chi!

Presentation Day

Keep your diaries clear on Sunday 20 October 2019.  Festivities will be kicking off at 11am sharp and will run through until 3pm at Willoughby Park Bowling Club.

Kids are to wear their playing kit, minus the footy boots of course!  It should be an awesome afternoon of celebration and FUN!

We look forward to seeing you all there! 🙂

As always a big shout out to our sponsors, your generosity is much appreciated!

Go Roos!
